living with the remnant of a troublesome upbringing and coping with the loss of her only family, lei is a quick to temper individual with pretty volatile emotions. she's blunt and can be pretty rude, and her humor is. . . nothing short of sarcastic and dry. despite it all, she can be an enjoyable presence to be around - just get on her good side and you'll have a good time.relationships are not her strong suit; over the years she's grown convinced that anyone who grows close to her will either die or come to abandon her, so she tends to hold others at arms length in an attempt to save her own hide.due to an incident in which her soul became melded with a shard of what remains of nidhogg's, she's become a bearer of the black wyrm's blood, causing scale growth on her skin and a strange discoloration to her left eye.she spends most of her time alone and travelling, often working as a mercenary for hire in various communities and city-states across hydaelyn.
a keeper of the moon from a considerably "untraditional" tribe residing within the mountains. the xe'han, whom lei once called family, were a group of miqo'te who sought a different kind of tradition - one taking influence from practices of monarchy.lei, born lorelei xe'han, became victim to her tribe's toxic and harmful ideologies from the very day she was born. her sister, aegis, was considered to be the next in line as ruler, groomed from a young age to become the perfect fit as leader of their twisted view of an ideal community. being her younger sister and second in line to the metaphorical throne, lorelei was held to these very same standards.aegis and lorelei would often sneak beyond the mountain they called home to visit neighboring communities and see the world beyond their own little bubble, and over time, lorelei began to question the life they lived. she began to yearn.she yearned so strongly that returning to their home was almost painful sometimes. while aegis felt the very same, she refrained from speaking on her beliefs. she held all of it in, close to her heart.. . . her younger sister, however, was much more outspoken. having become old enough to see the true nature of the life that she and her sister had been living, lorelei began to speak out against their treatment and rallied travelling adventurers to her aid to help to free her and her sister from the life they were living.for what it was worth. . . it worked. passing trials and tribulations, and enduring near-relentless abuse from their superiors and those who had once called them family, lorelei and aegis were exiled from the xe'han tribe, left to their own devices.while aegis retained the name she was given at birth, lorelei took on the simpler name of "lei", a nickname given to her by aegis from their childhood. no longer bound to the name of the xe'han, the sisters were as they stood - aegis and lei, and nothing else.it was hard, for a time. they traveled the land, wandering coerthas with the limited aid of kind travelers. eventually, the two of them found solace within gridania, and aegis took up training as a lancer while lei performed every so often for as much gil as she could gain.they were happy — free, surrounded by those who cared for them, and finally earning a name for themselves untarnished by their family.. . . and thus rang the bells of war as bahamut reigned terror upon the land.taking it upon herself to aid those in need, aegis became hailed as a savior within the community they had made for themselves. she was prodigious with a lance, and her selfless nature made her fall for every plea that reached her ears. try as she might, lei never found herself able to compare to the adventurous might that aegis held.a hero isn't without their faults, though — and aegis was burdened by her own demons. she became overwhelmed by the expectations of those who looked up to her, and her strength waned, but the destruction did not.her last moments were spent with her arms around lei, a living shield against lei's near-certain death, the screams of her younger sister drowned by the roar of never-ending carnage.

now living with the painful memory of her sister's death hanging over her head, lei travels eorzea in search of a purpose. she has since taken up lancing in aegis' stead, and serves as a travelling mercenary for hire; one of great standing, even, known town to town for her skill.in addition to her skill with a lance, she has also found comfort in acts of performance that she had clung to during aegis' time alive. a solo dancer who would do performances for gil on the streets, she understands that it isn't much. . . but, in the end, it's something.despite the numbness she feels, she can only press onward.

◈ sense of familiarity. lei is a familiar face namely within the scene of underground - and sometimes illegal - fighting rings. she's a well-known champion of some, and those who frequent and bet on contestants might recognize the bloodweaver for her expert and violent approach to battle.◈ woe is the fighter. lei can often be found in back-alley bars and pubs, having a drink (or three) after long and arduous days, either tending fresh wounds or simply tending sore feet from a long day of travel.◈ drink it away. though claiming to have a high tolerance for alcohol, lei isn't very good at being aware of her own limit when it comes to getting drunk. she's huge on drinking challenges and will never back down from one, even though that is to her own detriment more often than not.subject to expansion when i have more time to think on some. starters are not remotely limited to this; the world is your oyster!
